Permanent Monumentation Need at University of Florida Met by U.S. Markers

When Dr. Ahmed Mohammed, professor of Geomatics, Navigation and Mapping at the University of Florida’s School of Forest Resources and Conservation came to U.S. Markers, he had a very specific need.

“Because of the forest area we were mapping into our GIS, we needed a permanent marker that we could transport on ATV vehicles using existing fire lanes that were too narrow for trucks or other forest department vehicles.  It was also imperative that our grid markers could overcome two big obstacles:

  • in our deep forest locations: periodic prescribed burns that are performed by our forestry students
  • in our roadside locations: would not be damaged by periodic mowing.”

Where other products failed, U.S. Markers exceeded their expectations
.    The Galvanized steel components are fire-proof and the low profile design combined with the brightly colored markers meant that mower blades were not a threat.

“We have our students install markers for many mapping projects.  Often times, they would use simple nails, rebar or concrete that quite simply did not perform well.  This was the first time we used a product that I could truly call ‘Professional’.  On one hand, we were amazed at how quickly we could install your markers….often in under a minute. On the other hand, we feel that for the first time we truly have a permanent monumentation solution.”

Dr. Mohammed summed up their positive experience with the products up like this:

This product was perfect for our needs:  easy install, extremely durable and with the marker head and tag color variations that we needed.  I see widespread use for this product in Geomatics, GIS, Survey companies, Airborn Survey, LIDAR Industry, and GPS”
